Don’t worry, karma will take care of it. Fate will bring you together. If it’s meant to be, it will be. Nothing can stop you from finding your destiny. No need to fret or be sad, everything happens for a reason.
These are nice sentiments, but I don’t buy them.
It’s nice to believe there’s something bigger out there taking care of us and connecting us. While I do believe that, I also believe in ownership. Life is less about letting it happen and more about making it happen.
We can’t wait on the universe to connect us with others. That’s our job. We take our time and our talents and we use those tools to connect with others. The universe already did its part by putting us here.
You don’t always get what you give out. Sometimes you put all the good and positivity, within your power, into the universe and you reap no reward. People born into hardship? Did they deserve that? It’s easy to blame karma when bad things happen, and I definitely do, but I’m not about to victim blame a person for their trials because karma said so and they’re being punished for something they did in a different lifetime.
The more power we give karma, the less we empower ourselves. When someone hurts you, don’t wait for karma to do anything about it. You should do something about it. When someone hurts your loved one, don’t tell them that karma will take care of it. You stand up for your loved one. You take care of it. In other words, you’re in charge of taking care of you. You’re in charge of setting your own boundaries.
Make a decision and take some action. As the quote posted at the start of this article alludes to, we all share the same fate, and that’s death. The way we choose to live is what makes us special.
Karma does less for us than we do for ourselves. The biggest protection we can get from the universe is out of our own hearts. People putting good into the world create protection due to strengthening their hearts from love, work and service.
Fate is also a nice thought. Fate is also flaky. You know what happens when we decide to just trust in fate for our lives to work out? We don’t find love. Or, worse, we accept toxic love under the guise that we are supposed to be with a person fated for us, even if that person isn’t healthy for us.
And, destiny? I’m sorry, but if you wander through life expecting destiny to find your success for you, you’re going to end up on your deathbed very bitter indeed.
If destiny is defined as “hidden power [that] control[s] what will happen in the future” then honestly, what’s the point in ever putting forth any effort? Like, ever? If it’s your destiny then just sit and wait for it.
If all we take are signs from the universe when are we going to take a sign from our heart and follow that instead?
This all might sound like such nonsense coming from a person who puts stock into Mercury Retrograde and the Sign the Moon is in on a given day. I see astrology as a tool for better understanding ourselves and our world.
Fate, destiny and karma are not tools. They are the lazy man’s excuse for being a doormat and a loser. That’s a strong word, I know, but it’s the perfect transition into this next part.
Don’t be a loser. Be a winner. Winners don’t typically just wake up and win. Winners wake up before the sun, study, practice, study some more, practice better, take a quick break and practice again. Then they practice the perfected version until that becomes second nature. Then they win. They don’t expect karma or fate or destiny to control their choices or hinder their outcomes.
They go out and do the living and winning all on their own.
There’s a far more beautiful aspect of the universe that connects us all together. Wanna know what that is?
Us.
Fate doesn’t connect me to you. I do and sometimes you do. We connect.
Sure, I’ve met some in this life whom I swear my soul has met before. Maybe these are lucky coincidences. Maybe the universe knows our souls continue to be stronger together and so it keeps us near one another. That’s how far I’ll go with that. It’s still up to me to put forth the effort to keep those people I connect with close.
If I’m running late to work and I hit every light green, yeah, I’ll thank karma or Heaven or whatever. I like to thank the universe for seemingly rewarding me for my good deeds. No, I’m not advocating for a lack of faith or belief or wonder.
I just encourage you to try. Try harder to be better. Don’t wait for things to happen. Waiting makes you bitter. Trying makes you better.
So, be a little better, get up and go. You’re bigger than karma, fate and destiny combined.
